40, Tim Keller on Peter

Tim’s talks point clearly to a Lord Jesus who sees Peter as a broken person, who, after making with Jesus a list of amends is willing, willing to feed lambs, and then, after the lambs, care and feed sheep.

A metaphor of Jesus as a surgeon who removes Peter’s guilt and failures by a morning fire ( John 21 ) is Tim’s controlling teaching trope here.

In my view Jesus with Peter on a shore is also Peter’s sponsor: lovingly, Jesus guides Peter through painful amends, Peter’s amends to his Saviour and himself.

Step 8 is about being willing to make amends; willing to be with a sponsor/ surgeon; willing to trust Jesus; to clean house; to be willing to serve.

my prayer, is to be a willing Peter, willing…,
